1. Choose a contested term in a civic, ethical, or aesthetic domain — not a personal preference.
2. Write paragraph 1: define the term using three to four clear criteria that most reasonable people would accept.
3. Write paragraph 2: apply those criteria to a specific case you choose.
4. Write paragraph 3: acknowledge one criterion where someone might dispute your application and explain why your reading of the evidence holds.
