2. Denotation and Connotation Drill
- Take three word pairs that share a denotation: thin/gaunt, persistent/stubborn, frugal/cheap.
- For each pair, write the shared denotation and the different connotation.
- State which word you would choose in a passage that favors the subject, and which in a critical passage.
