Exercises — Week 34: Week 34 — AP Exam Readiness I: Free-Response Formats

2 hands-on tasks. Do them in order; each one feeds the Canvas item it names.

30 min · analysis

1. Rubric Mapping

  1. Write a thesis for an argument prompt provided by Mr. Gray. Evaluate it against the AP Thesis row: Does it make a defensible claim? Does it go beyond restating the prompt? Revise once based on your self-evaluation.
  2. Write one body paragraph for the same prompt. Evaluate it against the Evidence and Commentary row: Does it provide specific evidence? Does it explain how the evidence supports the claim? Revise the explanation if needed.
  3. Label what changed in each revision.
Turn in / bring: Original and revised thesis with self-evaluation note; original and revised body paragraph with labeled improvement.

2. Prompt Annotation Practice

  1. Take one synthesis prompt, one rhetorical analysis prompt, and one argument prompt from Mr. Gray or AP preparation materials.
  2. For each: underline the central task, circle the type of evidence required, note any specific constraints, and write one sentence naming exactly what a successful response will need to do.
  3. Do not write the essays — only annotate and name the task.
Turn in / bring: Three annotated prompts with one-sentence task identification each.
