1. Choose a subject that can be divided into three to four meaningful categories.
2. Write a thesis naming the subject, the categories, and the basis for division.
3. Write one paragraph per category with a topic sentence, two to three examples, and a closing sentence.
4. Use at least two category-transition phrases between paragraphs.
